How to measure your ring size?

You have found a beautiful ring. However, you don't know what ring size to choose because you don't know what ring size you have. You want to measure your ring size, but what is the best way to do this? Below we give several ways to measure your ring size so you can choose the way that suits you best.

 

Measure the diameter of your current ring

One of the easiest ways to determine your ring size is to measure a ring that is comfortable and fits well. The only things you need for this are:

• the ring you already own
• a ruler

Simply measure the inside of the ring by placing it on the ruler. (See the image above.) It is important that you measure only the inside of the ring and not the outside. The size you just measured is the diameter of the ring. You measure this in millimeters. If you need a different ring size unit you can look up the ring size table to see which size corresponds to your ring diameter.

Measure circumference of your finger with a string or piece of paper

If you don't have a matching ring on hand, another way to measure your ring size is by measuring the circumference of your finger. The things you need for this are:

piece of paper, a ribbon or string
a ruler
a pair of scissors, a pencil or a pen
Wrap the piece of paper, ribbon or string around the finger for which you want to measure the ring size. Then cut the item where it meets so that you have a piece of paper, ribbon or string the size of the circumference of your finger. Instead of cutting off the object, you can draw a line. You can then measure this with a ruler. You measure this in millimeters. The size you just measured here is the circumference finger ring size. If you need a different ring size unit you can look up the ring size table to see which size corresponds to your finger ring size.

Measuring with a tape measure

Measuring your ring size with a tape measure is a quick and easy method of measuring your ring size. The downside to this, however, is that it is not very accurate. You only need a tape measure to measure your size with this.

Use the following method: Wrap the tape measure around the finger you want to measure. Then read off by number of millimeters where the tape measure comes back together. The measured length is the circumference finger ring size of your finger. If you need a different ring size unit you can look up in the ring size chart which size corresponds to your circumference finger ring size.

 

Measure with a caliper

Another method of measuring your ring size is to use a caliper. To measure your ring size with this, you also need a ring that is nice and snug. You are then going to measure the inside diameter of the ring in millimeters. See in the picture below an example.

Carefully read the inside diameter of your ring off the caliper. This is the diameter ring size. If you need a different ring size unit you can look up the ring size table to see which size corresponds to your ring diameter.

Measuring with a ring sizer

The best way to measure your ring size is to use a ring sizer also called a ring stick. This is an instrument that allows you to easily measure the size of a ring by sliding it over the ring.

 

A ring sizer often comes with a set of test rings. You can use these to fit yourself and then test which one fits and feels best. Then slide this test ring around the ring to measure your ring size. The advantage of a ring gauge is that there are several ring sizes on it, so you can immediately read in the correct ring size unit what your ring size is. You can measure your ring size with a ring sizer at a jewelry store. However, you can also purchase a ring stick yourself to help you when shopping for rings online and never experience ring size problems again.

 

Things to consider when measuring your ring size

An important detail to consider when measuring your fingers is that your fingers can expand with heat. This can happen on a hot summer day, as well as in warm rooms. Therefore, if you really want to be sure of the right ring size, it may help to measure your ring size at a number of different times throughout the day and then average the different measurements to arrive at the ideal ring size.

 

One size rings

If after measuring your ring size you still don't feel quite sure about your ring size, it is also an option to purchase one size rings. The advantage of these rings is that they are adjustable and therefore easily adjusted to the size of your finger. Another advantage to this is that these rings can be adjusted to wear them on different fingers.
